What’s On in Hertforshire 2018 | Christmas Events
Having only been living in the Hertfordshire area for a few months I decided to do a little research into what is going on in our area this Christmas. Unlike Peterborough, I have not had long to figure it out but there are plenty of wonderful things that you can do here, and so I am sharing a few of my favourite ideas with you below!
Watch the Christmas lights get turned on
We love to see the Christmas lights get switched on in town, and in Peterborough, they often had a big event in the lead-up to it (of course Santa always turned up too!) We will be going to the Watford event in the Intu shopping centre (which starts at 4 pm on Thursday 15th November) when Squidgy finishes school!
Go to the panto
Last year I went to Windsor Theater Royal with Squidgy and my in-laws to see Sleeping Beauty and we will be going with them again to see Dick Wittington. Watford Palace Theatre is our local and is showing Jack and the Beanstalk from December 5th to January 5th.
Find a Christmas market
From November 30th to December 22nd you can find carol singers, food, an ice rink and so much more at the amazing Christmas market in St Albans. This year it has moved (apparently!) to Verulamium Park but there will still be the same gifts, booze, food and more available on stalls throughout the market. I’m determined to try and make my way there to check it out this year.
Visit Santa
This is a given for any parents with children that are still of an age where they love and believe in Father Christmas. There are plenty of places in Hertfordshire to visit Santa, and most shopping centres will have some kind of grotto set up too. However the place that we would most love to visit this year is Willow’s Activity Farm Santa Spectacular. This event is happening between November 21st and December 24th. There are so many reasons this is the perfect place to visit and so many things to do once you are there. It is not the cheapest experience around though, so it might not be for you if you’re on a budget!
Take a skate on ice
Our town center here in Watford is bringing back The Big Skate this year on The Parade and I am sure that I will take Squidgy for her first ice skating experience. It is going to be open November 26th to January 15th so there is plenty of time to visit and check it out. If Watford is too far away from you, check where your nearest Hertfordshire skate rink is and get some festive skating in this Christmas.
There are plenty of other things that you can do in your local area, all you have to do is have a little look around (and maybe Google it!) but I hope that I have given you a few ideas to get you started and into the Christmas spirit.
