2024 Christmas Trends | Our Home at Christmas
From the Victorian edible treats hung on Christmas trees with ribbon to the foil garlands popular in the 80s, Christmas trends may have changed over the years, but one thing has remained true; Christmas is just as popular (if not more so) now. So, what is trending for 2024?
My friend joked last year our Christmas Grotto Home looks like Santa's elves threw up in it, and that's just the way I like it. Read on to explore this year's top Christmas trends and how we incorporate these (and more) as we decorate our home.
Top 3 miscellaneous Christmas trends
1. Matching ‘fam jams’ and / or Christmas jumpers
Most every highstreet retailer now sells some variation of the Christmas ‘fam jam’ trend. From hoodies to jumpers, hats to pyjamas you can now pick up matching items in Christmas themes for every member of the family, including pets!
2. Handmade gifts
Whether you have the skills to get creative yourself, or order handmade gifts from someone else there are a number of reasons handmade gifts are trending this year including:
Supporting small, local business is great for those struggling during the cost of living crisis.
Handmade gifts add a personal touch to the festive season.
If you're trying to opt for a more sustainable Christmas, this is definitely the way to go.
3. Elf on the Shelf
This is a Christmas tradition which is a bit like marmite. Either you love it or you hate it! We fell into doing it accidentally after our handmade elf arrived for our daughter’s first Christmas with her letter from Santa… and we’ve had her every year ever since. Some elves are cheeky, some are a little bit naughty, but whether you love them or hate them, the elf on the shelf is a fun family tradition!
Top 5 Christmas decor trends for 2024
1. Non-traditional Christmas
2. Festive retro disco
With over £84 billion spent on Christmas last year¹, it's no wonder most every supermarket, retail store, and online shopping site is already stocking their seasonal shelves. If you've been out, you'll probably have seen plenty of retro disco decorations. They are the festive season's answer to the Brat Girl Summer trend; and of course I had to grab myself a disco ball for my own home this year.
3. Festive rainbow Christmas
We all know that traditionally, red and green shout Christmas… but not for 2024. This year it's bold, fun, and colourful - from deep burgundy and midnight blue to blush pinks and champagne gold, ‘tis the season to go wild.
4. Earthy, natural Christmas
From earthy tones of browns and dark greens to natural decor such as pine cones, berries, and wooden decorations and organic Christmas is on the cards for 2024. There are so many ways to link in this trend whether you want a minimalist Christmas or a maximalist one this year.
5. Nostalgic Christmas
Quirky, whimsical Christmas decorations from giant bows to 80s foil garlands are coming back into fashion. Bring the nostalgic feel of Christmases from your childhood back to your gome with these somewhat ‘tacky’ but totally Christmas-y decorations.
Wishing you a very Happy Christmas from my family and me this year!
