Christmas with children is always special. They bring laughter, joy, and let's be honest, chaos, to your home for the festive season. Here I'll share a few gift ideas for your children this Christmas whether they're a toddler like Peanut or a pre-teen like Squidgy.

The rule of 7

With a house full of “stuff”, (and of course the fact that we are renovating our new house), we are limited in what we have to spend this year. The rule of 7 is the best way to work to a tight budget, as well as limit and prioritise gifts within the following gift groups:

Something they want

Foldable scooter

As children get older, they start to want more than a shape sorter and stacking cups… and as a family that loves getting outside, the Foldable Scooters from Skates* are the perfect gift for children like ours. With his sisters already on scooters and bikes, Benji asked for his own, and I'm pretty sure the smile on his face says it all. Whatever colour or style you want Skates has it all. They offer skates, skateboards, and accessories too!

Something they need

Training cups for toddlers

When it comes to choosing things your children need, there are no shortage of options. While our older children tend to need less (but want more!) Peanut needs more, owing to her various additional needs. Unlike her peers, she needs items that help her live as normal a life as possible, like the b.box Training Cup* which you can pick up on Amazon†.

Whether you have a one year old who needs to learn to use a cup for the first time, or an older toddler like Peanut with additional needs, the b.box Training Cup will help your little one transition from bottle to cup without the mess. Plus they’re dishwasher safe for quick, easy, effective cleaning.

Something to wear

Sensory Smart nightwear

When you have a child with sensory issues like our little Peanut, picking out clothing for the coming year can be a little difficult. Dope Soul Village offer a fantastic Sensory Smart Nightwear range* perfect for autistic and sensory sensitive children. In addition to being a fantastic brand founded by a mother of an autistic child, 20% of all the brand's profits are donated to non-profit organisations advocating for women such as abuse survivors and more. These clothes are the gift that keep on giving.

Something to read

Personalised Christmas story books

Is there anything better than a personalised book? Over the years we have made tonnes of different stories, personalised to our children and this year I worked with StoryBug to order our youngest two their very own fully personalised story books*. Not only can you add your child's name, but the characters (including the child and their parents) can be designed to look just like the real deal, and you can add a little note from you, too.

Something to do

Arts and crafts

What child doesn’t like to get messy with some arts and crafts at home. Gifts like these make the ideal Christmas present, because they are something your children can open and use to give you a bit of a break on Christmas Day. Whether you opt for Christmas themed fun, or something they can use all year round, I think this is a top ten Christmas gift for children this year.

Pocket Printer

The Photo Creator Instant Pocket Printer* is a fun, easy to use, ink-free thermal printer which makes a perfect gift for your older children. The printer links with an app to create photos, notes, stickers and more. Unleash your child's creativity and let them personalise their life! The best part is you can purchase the printer from Smyths, Amazon†, Very and Argos.

Something to share

Babminton racket and net set

Getting outside in the garden and beyond is definitely our family's favourite pass time, and a Babminton Racket and Net Set from Babminton HQ* is the perfect gift for us all to enjoy together. With an increasing amount of time being spent in front of screens these days, a fun activity that gets everyone active and outside makes a great gift for children this Christmas.

Games night fun

Walk Like a Chicken

Walk Like a Chicken from Wicked Uncle* is one of the best games I've played with the children to date. Walk Like a Chicken is an easy game for even the younger members of your family to enjoy, and we had so much. Simply hide the pieces then act out the animal you find for the rest of the family to guess.

Hungry Bins

Hungry Bins* from Adventerra Games is the perfect choice for the younger members of your family to not only play but learn. Introduce your wee ones to recycling and composting in a fun way with the STEM classified memory game complete with 32 domestic waste tokens to organise into four waste bins; cardboard, plastic, compost and glass.

So, with that I conclude my Christmas gift guide for children 2024. We are truly on the countdown to Christmas now with just over a month to go. I hope you have some fab ideas for your children from this guide, and have a wonderful festive season with your family.

Wishing you a very Happy Christmas from my family and me this year!
