Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night! Isn't that what Santa says as he flies his sled away after delivering gifts? In our home, it's the stockings he fills and even in the middle of a global pandemic is still checking his list twice, ready for Christmas Eve deliveries. Read on to discover some top gifts for children's stockings, which Santa can deliver this year.
For the older ones
Something they need
Hair products
I really don’t think that there is any such thing as too many hair accessories. The girls love to have their hair done, and I love doing it (long may that continue!) We visited Gretna Gateway Outlet Village and picked up a few accessories from the Claire’s Accessories store there but you can grab hair accessories for your wee ones from pretty much anywhere from Primark to online small businesses.
Bath products
We all have showers and baths, right? That means that bath products are an essential part of stocking fillers every year. This year why not see if you can really go all out with the Christmas theme? The Range, B&M and even Primark have an amazing array of bath bombs, soaps and more that will be loved by children of all ages. I know that I will have one very happy Pickle with all the penguin bits we were able to find.
Toothbrushes
The packaging is recyclable and compostable.
The brushes are biodegradable bamboo.
For every brush bought, they plant a new tree.
They also donate a brush to a UK child in need for each one sold.
What could be better than an eco-friendly and sustainable gift?
Underwear
Honestly, the rate my girls go through their undies I sometimes wonder what exactly they do with them! From holes to stretched elastic to just not fitting anymore, underwear and tights seem to forever be making their way into the bin. That means that a stocking filler of socking, knickers and tights is always useful and at least for a wee while I won’t have to worry about them needing new ones! This can be a budget-friendly filler too, as undies can be picked up cheap at Primark and supermarkets like Asda and Tesco.
Something they want
Their favourite animal
All the penguins are in Pickle’s stocking this year, she is going to love it! For Squidgy, giraffes weren’t so easy to get but reindeers are her favourite Christmas animal so we opted for those instead! From snap bands I found in Card Factory to a hand puppet from Pounland there is a few little super cheap additions to the girls stocking ready to go.
their favourite character
Do your children have a particular character they love? I have passed on my love for Disney to our children, and obviously the blonde and dark haired Frozen sisters are the characters my girls seem to hold some sort of affinity with! I picked up Elsa and Anna Frozen II POP! characters and photo clips in the sale in Primark and I think that items like this make a unique and fun stocking filler.
Hatchimals
I really thought that Hatchimals would just be a fad, something that the girls would grow out of… but so far not so good, haha! Squidgy has added thes strange little plastic animals to her letter to Santa, so is definitely a must-have addition to my stocking filler gift guide. I found a huge bag of Hatchimals for sale on eBay and grabbed a cheap small bag each from Primark to pop them into for the girls. Done!
Mini playsets
Who remembers Polly Pocket? I grew up loving these little sets and whilst they are a little different to the ones I remember having as a child, I know that these will make a great addition to the girls stockings this year. Little mini Lego sets are always a winner, and can be picked up cheaper than you think (I got ours in the toy event at Sainsbury’s!)
Something for them
To build and enjoy
Something to do
Activities books
Creative kits
Something to eat
Chocolate
What child doesn't love chocolate at any time of year, but especially at Christmas. An easy and completely budget-friendly stocking filler for children has to be a selection to Christmas chocolates from Milkybar reindeer to Lindt snowflakes and so much more. I don't know how long it will last but I do know that every bit of it will be loved and enjoyed by each of my children.
For the babies
Something they need
Bath stuff
A pack (or two) of soothers
Some people choose to let their children work it out with their thumb, finger or simply cry it out. I am not one of those people. Sometimes when I know that I have done everything I can from food to drink to Calpol there is only one thing for it… a soother. These can be a parent's saving grace and what could be better for your baby's stocking than a couple of new ones? This way you have them ready for the next age group or simply as spares for when you need one and can't find one.
Something they (probably) want
Teething toys
Something to wear
Especially for the colder months
Christmas is situated in the middle of winter, and especially in 2020 we won't be travelling abroad to warmer climates for Christmas. So, why not pick up some socks, mittens and more to keep your baby cosy thanks to their stocking fillers? Now lockdown is over we picked up Munchkin some socks and mittens from Primark so we are ready to go (which will be useful if we have a lockdown 2.0!)
Bibs
Something to read
Indestructible perfection
I honestly didn’t know something like this exists… but apparently it does; and what a fabulous idea it is! When using some book vouchers we had I found these chew proof, rip proof, non-toxic washable books. I love them and with most babies putting everything they can get their hands on in their months these make a great addition to their stocking this year.
I hope that you have a few wonderful ideas for your children's stockings now. From the eldest like Squidgy to the newest like Munchkin, there are a number of simple - and budget-friendly - ideas for Christmas stocking fillers right here.
Wishing you a very Happy Christmas from my family and me this year!
