Afternoon Tea Baby Shower | Pregnancy Memories
Did you have a baby shower? I didn’t have one for either of the girls (we organised parties for after their arrival instead, so everyone could meet the baby!) but this time my sister-in-law wanted to throw me one; and I had a hard time saying no. Read on to find out how we chose to celebrate Munchkin's imminent arrival!
Finding out my sister-in-law wanted to throw me a baby shower
It all started last year. I had a message from Megan, my sister-in-law. She asked if she could organise me a baby shower… something to celebrate the joy of our little rainbow baby.
I was a little scared about what Megan's baby shower ideas may entail; but I need not have worried. She was quite happy to listen to my ideas and understood I didn’t really want a big, fussy party.
In the end we agreed we'd go out for an afternoon tea with a small group of friends and family. Then with hospital trips, Christmas and life getting in the way; the idea fell into the background. Roll around to January; literally a few days before my final trip down South and we very quickly organised for a few of us to get together in Windsor.
It was small like I wanted
but I missed a few people, as it was all a little last minute
By some miracle my best friend (who is always busy!) was able to make it, as well as my family and Fleeps who lives locally. So it was nice and small, just like I wanted; but I missed having a few of my faves there. Being a bit last minute my in-laws, some of my oldest friends and new friends a like couldn’t make it. Thankfully it was still lovely, and I had a wonderful time with those that were able to make it.
I did end up with a few small gifts
For baby and for me
I'll be honest, one of the major reasons for me not wanting a baby shower is that I feel like guests are expected to provide a gift; and I’d hate to put pressure on anyone.
We did get a few small gifts, though, and each one was special. From the personalised rainbow and name wooden sign for Munchkin to a Feather and Down gift set for me, each one was special.
My mum also organised for these awesome paper hot air balloons, complete with rainbows (obviously!) They were perfect as baby shower decor, and each had little surprise gifts inside from my family. As far as baby shower hamper ideas go, this was so super unique, and such as lovely idea.
Over all, despite it not really being ‘my thing’, and missing some friends and family; it was a lovely afternoon. I'm so glad I agreed to it in the end!
If you're wondering how to organise a baby shower, I would suggest talking to the mom-to-be. Make sure it's what she wants, and don't worry if she wants to throw something smaller than a hire-a-hall party; they can be just as special.
