Easter Egg Hunt at Allan Bank | Exploring the Lake District

We have been blessed with such beautiful weather for the first week of the 2025 Easter holidays. Being able to get out into our local Lake District back yard and enjoy the sun and beauty of our home just makes sense. Today I'm sharing our visit to Allan Bank and Grasmere.

Read on to check out everything you need to know about Allan Bank and their new Wordsworth themed Easter trail. As usual I’ve included all you need to plan your very own Easter holiday family day out.

About Allan Bank

Home to both William Wordsworth himself and the National Trust co-founder Canon Rawnsley, Allan Bank is the place where Wordsworth wrote his Guide to the Lakes. Here he shared his guise to the culture, people, traditions and natural beauty of the landscape that make up the Lake District.

Allan Bank not only has stunning views, and amazing walks to enjoy, the house itself is host to displays, exhibitions and creative activities paying homage to William Wordsworth. It's a great place to truly explore the history and beauty of the Lake District… especially when the weather is good.

FAQs about our family days out

How do I find Allan Bank?

Please note that the parking on site is for blue badge holders only. You will need to park in Grasmere village where there are a number of free and paid parking areas… arrive early if you want to park for free, though!

Is it suitable for children?

From the woodland walk to the child-friendly activities such as the 2025 Easter trail, Allan Bank is a great place for a family day out with children.

Can you take dogs to Allan Bank?

Dogs on leads are allowed both inside the downstairs rooms of the house and in the grounds at Allan Bank. If your pup is up to it, the woodland path and other walks around Grasmere are the perfect place to stretch their legs (and yours!)

Is there anywhere to eat?

There are plenty of spots to enjoy a bite to eat within Grasmere village. As with most National Trust sites there are outdoor picnic areas if you prefer to bring your own food, and if the weather isn’t on your side they also have the Butler’s pantry set up for picnics too.

Don’t forget to leave no trace. As with every outdoor space you visit, it is important you don’t leave rubbish behind, so take it home with you!

Are there facilities available?

Allan Bank has an accessible toilet on the ground floor with baby change facilities included. Additionally, there are public toilets available in Grasmere village. Please note that the public toilets in the village cost 50p to visit.

It may be one of the smaller sites we've visited this Easter, but we loved it all the same. I hope that this post is helpful, and that you're able to use it to make your own trip for this lovely, family-friendly day out in the Lake District.
