About Lakeland Wildlife Oasis

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is home to over 100 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates. Since it opened in 1992, Lakeland Oasis has become home to everything from snow leopards to lemurs. The 3-acre licensed zoo is now run by the Lakeland Trust for Natural Sciences, with prominent emphasis on conservation and education.

When is Lakeland Wildlife Oasis open?

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is open as follows:

Monday to Sunday

10am - 5pm*

Last entry to the zoo is one hour before closing.

N.B. While the zoo is open every day, all year round, they are always shut on Christmas Day (25th December) and Boxing Day (26th December).

* Lakeland Wildlife Oasis sometimes extends its opening hours for special events, particularly during the summer. It also closes at 4pm during the winter. Be sure to check ahead of time the dates you plan to visit!

How to find Lakeland Wildlife Oasis

Just 5 minutes from the M6 junction 35, Lakeland Wildlife Oasis is super easy to find. There is a car park adjacent to the entrance on site. It is a fair size, and as the zoo itself doesn't get wildly busy it usually has plenty of space to park up.

FAQs about our family days out

Is it suitable for children?

Of course! Let's be honest, places like this are always going to be child-friendly. I wouldn’t have included it in my child-friendly days out in the Lake District series if it wasn’t. From a teeny toddlers to older children and even the parents and grandparents; this is a lovely day out that your whole family will enjoy.

Is there anywhere to eat?

There is a play and picnic area over by the snow leopard enclosure. If you prefer you can always check out The Wild Café next to the entrance and gift shop. From the classic fish and chips to a hot brew like a latte you'll find something for everyone at the cafe.

Are there facilities available?

Yes! Just beyond the gift shop you'll find facilities suitable for all family members.

So, there you go! I've shared everything you need to know about heading to Lakeland Wildlife Oasis with your family. We had such a fabulous time there together on our various visits over the years (most recently with John's parents in tow!), and I hope you are able to enjoy the same.
