Sandy Bay Holiday Park | Parkdean Resorts
If you're looking for the ideal spot to enjoy a family getaway this summer, Parkdean's Sandy Bay Holiday Park has recently become our #1 choice for a staycation in Northumberland.
Read on to discover all this holiday park has to offer, and our top tips for enjoying the local area too!
The Caravan
The coastal town of Ashington is a wonderful choice of location for this caravan park - with every caravan mere meters away from the beautiful sandy beaches with the North Sea lapping at the shore.
Here are a few things about choosing the caravan that you may want to consider if you want to book a visit.
Extra wide models are preferable in my opinion, we found the standard ones too narrow.
An ensuite toilet is worth it if you can, having an extra toilet when there are 6 of us staying (including a toilet training toddler) is essential.
If you're going away with children, cots and bed linen can be provided. However we bring bed guards and back out blinds.
Again, whilst size crockery, cutlery and glassware can be found in the caravan, if you're heading over with children don't forget to take sippy cups, cutlery and anything else you feel they may need depending on their age.
The caravan we stayed in during the May half term was a little on the old side, but in good condition with everything we needed for our weekend away. It was the perfect base of operations for our weekend of family adventures.
What's available at Sandy Bay Holiday Park?
Some highlights of Sandy Bay include:
The arcade
Try out the classic holiday games and try to win some prizes… our children love the 2p machines best.
The playground
Weather permitting, the outdoor play area has slides, climbing frames and swings to burn off your children's excess energy. Not the weather for outdoor play? Sandy Bay also has an indoor soft play area.
The bar, restaurant, and takeaway food spots
Whether you want to relax with a drink at the bar, enjoy a delicious meal in the restaurant, or have a takeaway chippy back at your caravan, there are options for everyone if you don't fancy self-catering.
Scoops
Head down to the beach via the Scoops hut to grab bubble waffles, ice cream cones, and more to cool down on warm summer days!
In the local area
The beach
Set in the clifftops, Sandy Bay Holiday Park has direct access to one of the best beaches we've visited in England to date.
Family friendly days out in Northumberland
Northumberland, like our homeland of Cumbria, has plenty of wonderful days out for all the family.
If you have a National Trust membership, free days out can be found at manor houses like Seaton Delaval Hall and Washington Old Hall or even the Souter Lighthouse or local monuments.
Alternatively, Tynemouth Priory and Castle, Prudhoe Castle and Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens are just three of Northumberland's English Heritage day out options.
Of course you don't have to have a membership to National Trust or English Heritage to find places to visit nearby. If you head north a little, The Alnwick Garden, Alnwick Castle, Northumberland Country Zoo and more make great days out.
