Cresswell Towers Holiday Park | Parkdean Resorts

If you've followed us for a while, you'll know that a caravan staycation has been our number one go-to when we want to take a trip away with the children. Recently we decided to head to Northumberland for the weekend and used Cresswell Towers Holiday Park as our base of operations. Read on to discover everything you need to know about this holiday park.

The Caravan

The caravan was pretty standard, and although we chose a new model (new this year in fact!) it wasn’t massively different from those we've stayed in previously. Here are a few things about choosing the caravan that you may want to consider if you want to book a visit.

  • We always choose to stay in an extra wide model, as we've found standard ones are too narrow.

  • With Munchkin toilet training, we chose one with an extra toilet - it definitely made a difference having two and I would do it again.

  • Whilst they offer basics such as bedlinen for the bedrooms, we always bring bed guards for the younger ones and Gro Blinds for the windows as it can get bright in the room, especially during the late spring and summer months.

  • Full size crockery, cutlery and glassware is provided but we always take sippy cups and plastic cutlery for the youngest family members.

What's available at Cresswell Towers Holiday Park?

The arcade

The arcade isn’t the biggest one we've visited, but it's certainly not the smallest either. It offers a variety of machine to play games, 2p coin pushers and more with the chance to spend you winning tokens on prizes from sweets to toys. It's an ideal spot to enjoy spending time as a family if the weather isn’t the greatest and all three older children loved it.

The playground

You can't go wrong with a good playground. To be honest if they could, my children would probably spend every free moment in one. The playground at Cresswell Towers was a reasonable size, offering plenty to keep children of a variety of ages occupied.

It's situated just on the other side of the entrance road to the bar and arcade. It did get quite busy over the weekend we stayed there, but we did manage to find a couple of periods where it was quiet enough for us to go and explore.

The swings are always baby Peanut's favourite thing when we head to a playground, and the joy she provides is never ending. If you head to Cresswell Towers Holiday Park, I'm sure you'll love the playground too.

Other facilities too

From the office where you can buy your own caravan, to the newly refurbished bar and restaurant and even a sports court and lovely indoor swimming pool there are plenty of places to keep you fed, watered and enjoying your time away. Having just a couple of days on site (and spending most of the time away from the park!) meant that we didn't actually get to these spots as Cresswell Towers Holiday Park. It's good to know they're available, however, should we book to visit again.

In the local area

Some great takeaways

When we visited Cresswell Towers it was a treat to get away and celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary. It's tradition to finish our day with a curry and glass of Mateus wine (something we enjoyed the night John proposed!) and we found a really lovely one just a few minutes drive from the holiday park. You can also find a KFC and other options if they’re more your taste, or simply bring in grocery shopping from a local supermarket and cook something up yourself.

The beach, Cresswell Pele Tower and more

Just a few minutes walk from the holiday park is Cresswell Pele Tower a 15th century defence tower and one of around 80 pele towers that can be found in the county of Northumberland. Heading a little further down the road will bring you to Cresswell Beach, offering six miles of soft sand beach, rock pools and more.

A plethora of Northumberland days out

Living in Cumbria means we are on the doorstep of one of England's top staycation destinations, but Northumberland had plenty to offer too.

  • If you have a National Trust membership, free days out at Wallington, Dunstanburgh Castle, and of course Hadrian's Wall are great choices within touching distance of Cresswell Towers Holiday Park.

  • Alternatively, Warkworth Castle, Brinkburn Priory and Lindisfarne Priory are just three of Northumberland's English Heritage day out options.

  • Of course you don't have to have a membership to National Trust or English Heritage to find places to visit nearby. The Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle, Northumberland Country Zoo and more are also in the area.

So, there you go. Thanks to Covid it's been a while since we've stayed in one, but caravan staycations will always be something we love to do. I can't wait to get away again… and don't worry, I'll make sure to share our adventures here too!
