The Mother's Day UK date is nearly upon us. Baby brain, trips into hospital and of course lockdown 3.0 have meant I missed most of the count down to Mother's Day on March 14th. That being said, I couldn’t let it pass by without sharing Mother's Day gift ideas to help you give your mum a very happy Mother's Day, in spite of lockdown!
The small things that can make a big difference
Go for a walk
Lockdown has left all of us inside, and for many cabin fever and boredom can be a huge mental strain. Getting outside for a walk can help to blow off the cobwebs, and give you an escape from everything for a little while. It also has the added bonus of helping youngsters run off their excess energy (children having an early night is good for mum too!) As the weather begins to take a turn for the better there is nothing nicer than getting out for some fresh air.
Let her have a lie in
For all the partners out there - this one is a gift from you. Get the children up, dressed, fed and quietly entertained and allow their mum to have a lie in. This will be particularly appreciated by pregnant mums-to-be like me. Pregnancy insomnia, needing to pee all the time and lovely nausea and vomiting (why do they call it morning sickness? That's a lie!) and more can be a nightmare and when you have other children the early starts are a killer. A lie-in and chance to catch up on rest will never be sniffed at.
Do the household chores
Including the cooking!
If you're old enough, do things to help mum around the house. No one is too young to clean up after themselves, and there are plenty of jobs which can be allocated to children of all ages. Plus, with restaurants, pubs, and cafes shut meaning meals out are also off the table, but that doesn’t mean you can't make Mother's Day special. Pick out your mum's favourite food, and whip up her favourite meal for dinner or why not treat her to breakfast in bed as a surprise?
Organise a video call
Thanks to lockdown restrictions, unless you live with them you’re unlikely to see your mum on Mother's Day. That doesn’t mean you can't organise a get together via Zoom, Microsoft Meets or even WhatsApp! I haven’t met my nephew yet, and the only family photos we have of all of us look a little like this at the moment… but that is better than nothing!
Homemade cards and handwritten letters
This doesn’t just have to be for the little ones, but obviously mine love to get stuck in for arts and crafts. The reality is most of us won't have a chance to see our mums this year thanks to lockdown restrictions so sending a little card or gift handmade with love is sure to be appreciated by every mum.
