We're Having A(nother) Baby! | Pregnancy Announcement
Trigger Warning: Although this is happy news, this pregnancy has not been plain sailing. This post discusses worries about having another miscarriage.
I started my blog when I was pregnant with baby number two… Pickle. If you’ve been around for a while, you'll have watched her grow, and then seen her become a big sister too, as we welcomed Munchkin to our family. Now, just a few weeks after his first birthday, we have some amazing news to share… we've expecting baby number four!
When did we find out?
I was really ill at Christmas. To be honest, it started to worry all of us. We decided that I should call the doctor in the new year, but thought it best to check that I wasn't pregnant first (we were so sure I wasn't!) Turns out, I was! So, as we celebrated the New Year with my in-laws via video call, I raised a glass of Shloer instead of champagne.
With no proper cycle dates to rely on (usually a midwife would use the first day of your last menstrual cycle, but I wasn't back to normal after Munchkin!) I had a scan at around 8 weeks to get a rough date and book my dating scan.
A little hiccup
2 weeks after my early scan, I started bleeding - heavily - and doubling over in extreme pain. It was like having a period, except I knew I was pregnant, so I knew it wasn't right. As someone who has already lost babies to miscarriage, I was terrified. Thankfully the community midwifery team here are awesome and very quickly (given the current Covid restrictions) managed to organise a scan to check things over. I love that our baby is wrapped in a heart shape here, and of course that everything was ok. You can read more about the scary early weeks here.
When was our dating scan?
As my body and cycle hadn’t fully returned to normal, it was a little difficult to get the dates right for booking the dating scan. In the end, we had our dating scan a week later than you would usually have it, at exactly 13 weeks pregnant.
How did we make the big announcement?
Although we knew everything was ok, and I was no longer on bed rest, we decided to hold off on making the announcement. With Munchkin's birthday less than a week after the scan, and Squidgy's just a few weeks later we decided to hold off until they were celebrated first. That way we could ensure that their birthdays were the focus, not my pregnancy.
Telling the children
A short while before our dating scan we decided to let the children in on our little secret. Check out the video I made of them discovering they have a new baby sibling on the way!
Telling family
If you’re looking for a unique way to announce your pregnancy during lockdown… I highly recommend getting crafty! With our other children, we were able to tell family in person… but lockdown made that impossible this time. Instead we sent little gifts to our closest family members.
Our parents
I crocheted mini bunnies and balloons to create a little 3D floating frame with a printed copy of our dating scan.
Our siblings
Although I love our siblings, I did a slightly quicker and easier craft to announce to them! I put together a little card complete with a print out of our dating scan to surprise them.
My blog announcement
After 3 very different pregnancy announcements for Squidgy, Pickle and Munchkin, I wanted to come up with a pregnancy announcement idea just as unique for this baby. For my blog I went with number balloons celebrating 1, 2, 3 and finally 4 children.

My Mama Naii's Crochet announcement
I literally forgot my own business when I announced my children in the past, so this time I had to make sure to tell my followers and customers there too. With a little help from my letter board, the scan photo and a little pair of crochet booties I shared our pregnancy announcement over at Mama Naii's Crochet.

John’s announcement
If you're not new around here, you'll probably have seen the two previous announcements we made using “I'm going to be a big sister" t-shirts. Thanks to the amazing skills of a friend's sister, we recreated those photos with our three children for John to use as his pregnancy announcement!
I am so excited to go on this journey once again… although I'm not going to lie I am slightly terrified too! I can't wait to share it all with you, here's to our golden baby's safe arrival in the summer!
