Learning to Swim | Swim Fin Review | Me Becoming Mum
Here are a few reasons why I have really enjoyed having our Swim Fin when I've taken Squidgy out to the pool to teach her to swim.
You don't need anything else with it (as long as they are supervised)
As long as I was close enough to look after her if she got into any trouble, once she got the hang of it Squidgy was able to swim independently. She hasn't even been able to do so with arm bands or anything else we have tried so I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly she was able to pick it up and swim around without any support from me.
It teaches good posture for swimming
Without restricting their movements whilst swimming, the fact that the Swim Fin sits along your child's spine ensures that they keep a straight back and lay along the top of the water while they learn to swim. I found it helped Squidgy to keep herself flat in the water and worked well to ensure she had the best posture for swimming, allowing her to concentrate on the movement of her legs and arms.
It fits any child learning to swim
Due to the Velcro design of the straps that hold the fin to your child, you can adjust it to fit. This means that no matter how old they are when you are teaching them to swim; or if they have a few extra rolls or are super skinny, you will be able to ensure that the Swim Fin fits comfortably to your child.
They are fun to wear
From running around the house playing shark chase to swimming in the pool and pretending to catch me, Squidgy has had no end of fun using her Swim Fin to find imaginative ways to play. In fact she has so much fun she almost forgot she was learning to swim and just did it... her natural swimming instinct simply kicked in and away she went.
They look good
As they are available in a variety of colours and are a fun shark fin shape (obviously... hence the name, "Swim Fin"!) they look great as well as being functional. If you are a parent, you will know as well as I do how important it is to have something that captures your child's interest because if they think it's boring, you are less likely to be able to encourage them to use it.
The Swim Fin may not be a cheap option as far as swimming aids go, but I think it is worth the money for the fun and functionality that you get from it; and I can completely understand why it has won so many awards! Being endorsed by multiple swimming bodies is also a bonus, because you know you have a safe, great product for you children.
So whether you are looking for something to help inspire confidence and imaginative play, or simply a functional product that can speed up teaching your child to swim, the Swim Fin could be the perfect product for you.
