Did you know that Father's day is just around the corner? Thanks to lockdown we've all been losing track of time… the days just seem to melt into one. With a lot of us doing most of our shopping online these days, here are some top gift ideas for Father's Day to treat your dad this year.

When is Father's Day in the UK 2020?

The date of Father's Day 2020 in the UK is Sunday 21st... that means it is just one week away! Read on to discover my top Father's Day gifts from sweet treats to child-free breaks.

Don't forget the card

Tache® cards* are amazing and this year they have teamed up with Good Night Snoring to offer great value (and funny) cards complete with anti-snoring ring. My girls are forever moaning about daddy's snoring, so nothing could be better to give John from our children! If you're in the same boat these cards are perfect. If not, and you just want a fun (or funny) card, they have plenty of other options to choose from too (the puns, THE PUNS!) so be sure to check out the Tache® website.

Getting out and about

Family days out

Whether you plan in some days out to the zoo (now they’re finally allowed to reopen) or some simple walks in the countryside; a family day out is a great gift. This one is ideal for both dads who have been inside the same four walls as their children during the UK lockdown, and grandads who have missed out on seeing their grandchildren because of lockdown.

I am so lucky to live in Cumbria with a bucket load of beautiful places to visit. If you are close enough to make a day trip up here, why not check out my posts on exploring the Lake District and places you should visit (most are free!) You can find them on my blog here.

Running shoes

Lockdown has forced many to think outside the box when it comes to exercise, especially as all the gyms are closed. People like Joe Wicks have encouraged everyone to get active at home, so why not choose a gift to help your dad to get some exercise! Treat him to some comfortable, lovely looking running shoes like Giesswein®’s Merino wool runners*. They are lightweight, flexible, durable and best of all super comforts (so I'm told!) They also come in a variety of colours, so you can pick the perfect one to gift.

Gifts perfect for lockdown

Encourage your dad's creative side

Colours for journaling and other creations

I love Stabilo products, and I’m not going to lie I may steal the Pen 68 and STABILOaquacolor® gift sets I was sent for John this year. With a fabulous range of options available there is a Stabilo product for every dad to be able to get his art and craft on. From journaling to drawing to adult colouring books there are so many options for using these amazing products.

Tech to keep him occupied

We've had so much good weather recently, it's bound to break at some point… so make sure your dad has gifts to keep him occupied on rainy days like the Royole Rowrite*. Capturing every pen stroke, you can sketch or write and capture every idea in digital form. The best part is it works with a free iOS® or Android™ app to allow you to save all the creations in real time, or even share videos with friends, family and colleagues. A must have for every creative mind.

Indulgent treats

Sweet syrups (best served with a breakfast in bed!)

Did you know… indulgent treats don't have to be full of calories with the amazing range of syrup and sauce flavours from The Skinny Food Co.®* You can treat the dad in your life to something sweet or savoury, full of delicious flavour but with zero calories. They also offer vegan, diabetic-friendly and free-from options; which means this is a gift suitable for every dad!

Chocolates

Let’s be honest, chocolate is always a winner. Lockdown has made many of us feel a little on edge and stressed, so an indulgent treat is definitely warranted! Some of John’s favourites are Guilian® Belgian chocolates* so he gets them at almost every special occasion. You can even pick them up on Amazon†, so you don’t have to go out to shop for them.

Get dad to sort the DIY

Sugru mouldable glue*

If you've got wires that need new covering, a crack in your bath or other DIY that needs doing around the house give the dad in your life a hint with Sugru®*. With a 30 minute window to mould, this glue product is soft and easy to roll and mould (actually similar to Playdoh!) Unlike Playdoh, however, once left for 24 hours to set, Sugru turns into a flexible, waterproof and durable product to fix those niggling DIY disasters!

Everyday essentials

Clothes

From baby puke to sweat walking up the beautiful hills and around our local lakes, John’s t-shirts get a beating. Whatever situation your dad or partner is in, it's likely he'll need some form of clothing replacing. Scroll through the wide variety of items available on the Mainline Menswear website and you are bound to find something to suit him. They have a wide variety of brands, sizes to suit most every man and a great sale on at the moment, which includes this lush SuperDry® polo shirt* I ordered for John.

Socks

Socks may seem like a bit of a cliché but if you have been hanging out socks with holes in during lockdown like I have, you will know they are also essential! Why not treat him to some Mainline Menswear socks* where they have some top brands to choose from.

Soaps, body lotions and more

In a society which is becoming increasingly aware of the products that we use and how they affect both our bodies and the environment, skin care from κέαρ®* is ideal. Their products are free from artificial fragrances, synthetic chemicals, toxic preservatives and any other unsafe ingredients. They also have a wide range of products from body balm to soap, and even offer gift sets of their products too.

Get ready for summer with barbecue essentials

Foodie bits

“Foodie bits?” I hear you ask. I'm talking about viking smoked salt* to add the perfect flavour to the meat before barbecuing. Or maybe the perfect (and totally gorgeous) wooden board* to style up the food when serving. Actually from smokers to seasonings you'll find everything for the perfect barbecue on the SousChef website; to help your dad cook up a storm this summer.

Cleaning tools

After your dad's finished cooking, don't forget he'll need to clean the barbecue too. Gifts like this grill brush* are the perfect way to help (and encourage) him do just that!

Summer tipple essentials

Glassware

Ravenhead cocktail glasses† are a great bridget friendly option, and come in sets of two a variety of shapes from martini to piña colada. Help your dad recreate that summer holiday abroad with beach cocktails complete with garnish and even a little cocktail umbrella†.

Syrups

From strawberry to passion fruit the Monin® cocktail syrup set* has a variety of flavours offering everything you need to add a little extra something to your favourite cocktail blend. Your dad will love using these syrups to whip up a cocktail, mocktail or even a milkshake!

A cocktail mixing kit

Once he has the alcohol, fruit juices, syrups and appropriate glassware, it's time to ensure your dad (or partner!) can make the perfect cocktail with all the gear he needs to get his mixology on.

The eKitch Cocktail Kit†. With this kit your dad can get accurate ingredient measurements using the jigger, make a cocktail on the rocks with the silcone ice moulds and even use the cocktail shaker to have a cocktail shaken, not stirred (although the set has a stirrer for that too!)

Little tipple tasting gift sets

A small glass of whisky in the evening is enjoyed by many dads (and grandads!) so why not treat them to an il Gusto whisky gift set* which includes four Scottish and Irish whiskies. It is beautifully displayed in an elegant wooden box and makes the perfect gift for dad this Father's Day.

Enjoy nature in the garden

For the twitcher in your life

While your dad is in the garden grilling his steak on the barbecue, or sitting on the patio with a cocktail, why not give him something to enjoy out there? With gifts from Henry Bell such as bird feeders* you can help him encourage the local wildlife to come and join him. Just be careful it's the correct wildlife... squirrels love an easy meal!

Something to look forward to after lockdown

A child-free break

Glamping trip for two

After multiple nights spent camping in the garden, I'm pretty sure that John would love a glamping trip for two (actually any night away just him and me!) Ddi you know that you can treat your dad (or partner!) to a Buyagift voucher* for these kind of experiences? The best part is there are mutliple different sites to choose from for the night way, although I'm pretty sure that Windermere will be John's choice, just for the views!

Buyagift offer vouchers to suit every budget, and so many partners to choose from. This means no matter what your dad is into, from adrenaline fueled experience days to romantic nights away, you'll find it on their site. The best part is their Smartbox products are valid for 24 months, which means your dad can keep his gift as something to look forward to after lockdown!

All that is left to say is... Happy Father's Day to my amazing husband John. Thank you for putting up with me and my camera and for being the best daddy in the world to our beautiful rainbows. To all the other daddy's out there, I hope you have a wonderful Father's Day and are able to enjoy special moments and time with your children.
