While on board the Cunard Queen Elizabeth there was a number of formal nights that we attended and each one saw my family and me dressed up to the nines and partying late into the night, even our girls were up past midnight. We had such a fabulous time and I had to share some memories of those evenings with you.

The Cunard Ball

Me Becoming Mum's Cunard Experience / The Cunard Ball
What We Wore

  • John wore a satin lapel tailored tuxedo from the F&F range at Tesco, with a pleated style dress shirt and bow tie.

  • I wore this sheer back, v-neck Bon Prix evening gown complete with hidden secrets... a stick on drawstring bra to prevent milk leakage and a pair of spax to hold in my mum tum.

  • My hairstyle consisted of a Danish plait halo with the top half of my hair, meeting in a central plait at the back of my head. I then used my BaByliss Curl Secret* to create some light curls in the hair that was left out at the bottom, plus straightened my fringe to complete the look.

  • My make up was pretty simple, made up of basic contouring, concealer and foundation, mascara and a Primark's own brand PS... MATTE lipstick in purple.
  • As our first experience of a ball on board the Cunard Queen Elizabeth cruise ship, the Cunard Ball was a good one. The evening began with Squidgy heading off to the Kids Zone to spend some time there with her new friends, and my hubby and I (with Little L in tow of course) headed upstairs to the oh so posh Commodore Club for pre dinner drinks.

Everyone we saw was enamored by the girls wearing their matching Next dresses, and we all had so much fun dressing up. We enjoyed a fancy dinner in the Britannia restaurant followed by some more cocktails and dancing (mainly by Squidgy and some very amazing professional looking couples!) in the Queen's room. The first of many very late nights for our girls, but it ended with us all feeling as happy as anything!

    The Masquerade Ball

    What We Wore

  • John wore a satin lapel tailored tuxedo from the F&F range at Tesco, with a pleated style dress shirt and bow tie.

  • I wore a Quiz cocktail dress, coupled with a budget busting necklace and earrings set from eBay.

  • The masks we wore were both from the awesome range available here at Simply Masquerade gifted for use on our cruise!

  • I had to create a hair style that would look good whether the mask was tied on or not; so I split my hair into three buns down the centre of the back of my head, simple but stylish!

  • My make up was a bit more extravagent for this event. After my usual contouring, concealer and foundation, I went all out with the eye make up, from bright blue eyeliner to creating a blue smokey eye effect with one of my favourite Avon palletes. Swopping out my purple PS... MATTE lipstick for the bright red shade was a nice final touch to the look.
  • The second formal night on board was my favourite, because who doesn't love dressing up for a masquerade ball? Instead of Squidgy having her early dinner going up to the Kids Zone, she wanted to wait and join us at the Britannia restaurant. She was especially excited to show off her gorgeous dress from monsoon, which she accessorised with her silcone necklace from Seb and Roo and her very own mask.

Just because she had her own didn't mean that ours were off limits, however, and she spent half the night stealing John and my masks, and even her grandmother's (which is not only a beautiful Venetian mask but was actually bought from Venice itself... I slightly cringed every time Squidgy got a hold of it!)

I loved dressing up, and I have always wanted to attend a masquerade ball so this was right up my street! I was so pleased that john joined me in dressing up too, he is such a gentleman, because something like this is very much out of his comfort zone. I think it suits him though, he scrubs up well!

    The Starlight Ball

    What We Wore

  • John wore his F&F satin lapel tailored tuxedo, with a plain white shirt and bow tie, with the new smart shoes I bought for him from Matalan.

  • I wore a gorgeous cocktail dress from Quiz, coupled with another necklace and earrings set from eBay; which I thought fit the "Starlight" theme perfectly without being cliché or tacky plus didn't break the bank.

  • I used my BaByliss Curl Secret* to create perfect curls in the lighter blonde ombre of my hair, that meant I could have my hair down but still look beautiful.

  • My make up started with some basic contouring, concealer and foundation, followed by some mascara and a small amount of powder blusher. I finished off my look with the purple shade of Primark's own brand PS... MATTE lipstick range (which are my new favourite lippies!)
  • As the final formal night on board, the Starlight Ball was another lovely one. It was kind of sad knowing that it mean our time on board was coming to an end, but it was a great way to finish up. You can't go wrong with a bit of monochrome so having my whole family in black and white was awesome, albeit a little bit twee! This time we made the most of the on board photographers and now have a beautiful family photo of us all framed in our kitchen. I can't say that I mind our own photos however, I think they are just as nice, and bring back so many happy memories!

We had such a lovely time at each of the formal nights on board the Cunard Queen Elizabeth, and I am so glad that we got to take part in them, and the girls too! It means I also have some gorgeous dresses or any other formal events that come up in my life, should I so chose to wear them. Or maybe I will save them until the next cruise that we decide to embark on. Either way, it was the best experience to have our little family whisked away for a wonderful holiday on board the cruise ship, and I have so many fond memories looking back.
