Fixing my Phoenix Tattoo

You remember a while ago, way back in October, I shared a post for #Blogtober16 about my tattoos and piercings. Well since that a few things have changed, including a few extra piercings and adapting a couple of my existing tattoos to make them better. The first of these was the phoenix tattoo on my right upper arm.

The reason I decided to make some changes to this tattoo, (which, by the way was the first I ever had)  was because of the fact that I fell out of love with it a very long time ago. Not only is it not quite what I was hoping for, but as my eldest daughter has grown up she began to call it a parrot. Not quite what you want when you have a phoenix tattoo to symbolise the fact you have overcome the adversity you faced in your past.

I spoke to a local tattoo artist, who agreed to help me have a do over on my tattoo. We discussed what I was looking for, and I booked in my appointment to get my phoenix made into a proper phoenix, complete with a few cherry blossoms to boot.

After freehand drawing on a new design over the top of my existing tattoo with black biro and red permanent marker, I got to have a sneaky peak at it in the mirror.   I could see the outline of what it was to become when I looked at my reflection,  and was super excited, and happy with the new design. That meant it was time to get the real work started. The permanent part.

After a deep breath and expecting it to be super painful, I was surprised that it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be.  The last time I had a tattoo was over four years ago, before I got pregnant with Squidgy. In that time my mind had forgotten how it feels to have a tattoo, so it was a pleasant surprise to not be in as much pain as I was expecting. In fact it was so easy I took a couple of selfies and updated my Insta-stories!

A couple of weeks later and my new tattoo was all healed, beautifully bright and colourful, and most certainly not a parrot anymore! I am so happy with the way it looks now, and love to show it off in short sleeve tops and dresses, instead of trying to hide it all the time.

Best of all is the fact that my daughter now calls it a fire bird! #winning
